Living the Mission: Caring for the Least of These

A church member shared his experiences Loving God, Loving Others, and Living the Mission:

I have been blessed to go on four Mission Journeys to Honduras through First Baptist Norfolk. We visited orphanages and youth detention centers, ministering to the spiritual and physical needs of these children as we engaged in Bible studies, group discussions, church services, and recreation. Testimonies of what the youth had experienced were heart-wrenching; we shared the love of Jesus and let them know they are not alone because He is always with them. In the orphanages, workers are few. Infants and toddlers get little stimulation and have few toys. We provided lots of hugs and donated toys.

This summer, I saw many things in need of repair to make the children’s living spaces safer, cleaner, and more comfortable. I felt a strong conviction to step outside my comfort zone to be the hands and feet of Jesus to those less fortunate. In August, I returned alone for two weeks to do roofing, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry work on these run-down facilities. This trip was made possible by prayer and support from church members. It is amazing to see how God uses us when we answer His call. Mission trips have been the most rewarding thing I have ever done and I encourage you to prayerfully consider an upcoming trip.
