Living the Mission: Park Place Child Life Center

A church member who serves with Park Place Child Life Center (PPCLC) shared her experiences:

Imagine growing up in an environment challenged by poverty and uncertainty. Many youth of Park Place face this daily. Thanks to PPCLC and many volunteers, children find a safe, nurturing, Christian environment right in their own community. Since 2004, over 600 children have participated in the center’s after-school and Saturday programs. Omar, a 7th grader, says, “The Child Life Center was the best thing that ever happened to me.”

PPCLC’s mission is to transform the lives of children through arts-based programs designed to advance literacy and encourage a lifetime love of learning. We provide, at no charge, mentoring; homework assistance; classes in music, visual arts, dance and martial arts; recreational activities; meals; field trips and summer camps. It’s interesting to see what each week brings at PPCLC. For several weeks I read to Asia as she reluctantly listened. I was absent for two weeks and when I returned, she came over and began to read me a story!
