Opportunity to serve in East Ocean View

East Ocean View (EOV) Community Hydroponics Garden-Volunteers Needed!

We are excited to announce an opportunity for YOU to be part of Operation Blessing’s first Hydroponics Garden right here in the Hampton Roads Area. Operation Blessing is teaming up with Bon Secours Healthcare System to transform a corner lot into a beautiful oasis of life. Together Bon Secours and OB will be expanding the “Community Garden” into a large green space deeming with vegetation brought naturally through square foot gardens, hydroponic gardens, a shed that will house solar panels to provide electricity, and beautiful brick path with arbors and finished off with a classic white picket fence. As always, we are counting on you to help us with this community level project.

Beginning Thursday, April 21st through Saturday, April 30th, volunteers are needed to provide a variety of projects for the opening of our Community Hydroponics Garden location, which will be located at the corner lot of 18th Bay Street and Pleasant Avenue in the East Ocean View area of Norfolk. Volunteers are needed to assist with various jobs throughout this project including the following:

• General gardening and planting

• Paver installation

• Fence installation

• Solar panel installation

• Building / assembly of planter and tree boxes

• Construction of garden arbor and benches

• Assembly & Construction of Shed

Specific skills or trades are not required-all are welcome! We do ask that volunteers please dress appropriately as we will be working outside, doing minor carpentry projects and suggest that jeans and closed-toed shoes be worn for those who will be volunteering.

Volunteer Details:

• We would like for volunteers to have the availability to work in eight hour shifts (but we still appreciate and will take anyone who would be willing to volunteer for a half a day shift ).
• Lunch will be provided for volunteers

· Please meet our staff each day at 8:30 AM at the EOV Community Garden on the corner of 18th Bay & Pleasant Ave.
