Every fourth Sunday, a group representing First Baptist Norfolk lives the mission by serving the homeless in our community. This team of Student Ministry leaders and high school students serves a hot meal to homeless individuals at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in downtown Norfolk. So many students enjoy serving that one month the 9th -10th graders go and then the 11th -12th graders serve the following month.
This outreach is a joint effort between parents and students, who work together to set the tables, pour iced tea, serve a meal that is prepared by volunteers from Sacred Heart, clear the plates, and clean up when mealtime is over. Students get an opportunity to serve with a smile and reflect the love of God by showing a servant’s heart to homeless families in the downtown Norfolk area. They give 100% of their energy to do whatever is asked of them without complaining and sacrificially give of their time to make Jesus smile. Through their efforts, our students exhibit hope for the hopeless in a lost world.
