GroupServe January 2010

A new year brings many opportunities to minister in the community and reach people with the Good News of Jesus Christ. As you read through these opportunities remember that some are bridge-building for the privilege of sharing our faith. Here are some ways that God is working this month:

New Opportunities!!!
Coronado School- This school continues to receive mentors for their young mothers. For more information on how to begin, contact the Missions Office.
We will also begin collecting for our annual baby shower for these young women and their children, so be sure to watch our website and the announcements for more information.

Poplar Halls Elementary School- This school has opened its doors to our church for mentoring and other needs. They currently need volunteers to assist with some needs in their gymnasium. For more information, contact the Missions Office.

Ongoing Ministries:
Mosaic Church- Contact Pastor Steve Byrum to learn more about how you can help this Church plant in downtown Norfolk that is serving the artistic and university people in our region. Contact Renee Hannas at rhannas@firstnorfolk.org for more information.

Hampton Roads Regional Jail- Hispanic and English opportunities exist with Chaplain Gene Sayre. Contact the Missions Office for more information.

Outreach for Christ- Several of our members are involved with this ministry and they would like to invite you to assist with their evangelistic outreaches. For more information contact ofc@outreachforchrist.org or 498-4700.

Park Place Baptist Church- We have several requests from Park Place which is located in the inner city of Norfolk. Visit www.bigserve247.org to see how you might help! Or contact Rev. Terry directly at 622-1847.

Hope for the Hungry- This group is seeking classes and individuals to serve at the Union Mission to provide supplementary ministry to those seeking shelter and food. Regular opportunities exist on Sundays at 7:15a.m. For more information contact Adam Cole at adam.r.cole1023@gmail.com

Gosnold apartments- Weekly ministry at the Gosnold apartments continues on Thursday nights. Individuals and groups are invited to serve this segment of our population who have been chronically homeless. For more information volunteers may contact Bob Williams at robertwilliams@prodigy.net or Susan Briggs at 461.3226.

Cloverleaf apartments- Ministry opportunities are beginning to open with the residents of this facility as well. Contact Barbara Harvey at phil4-13@usa.net for more information.

What is missing?- This is a brief list of the things that our members are doing to serve, but many other opportunities exist. How is God leading you and your small group to serve in the new year? Contact us and let us help your dream become a reality!
